Make Memories with the Animal Life at Dolphin Encounters, Bahamas
Have you ever wanted to swim with dolphins or see a sea lions habitat?
At Dolphin Encounters our mission is to provide our guests and concerned marine mammal lovers the opportunity to see their dreams come true. We see the evidence of this every day as we watch the faces of our visitors when they meet one of our dolphins or sea lions for the very first time.
Through our educational lectures and the intimate contact with the animals that our guests receive, we are able to teach people how special they are. Ultimately, because of this knowledge, we hope that everyone will become even more committed to conservation issues involving not only dolphins, sea lions and Bahamas animal life but all marine mammals and their environment.
All training with the animals is accomplished using a positive reinforcement system. This training system is used to perfect behaviors that the guests experience during their encounter. It also serves as exercise, stimulating them mentally and physically, and allows them structured time for play, socialization and learning. We firmly believe the success of our program is a direct result of the relationships that are built between the trainers and the marine mammals.
Our training program is one-on-one, one trainer to one animal. The trainers spend quality time throughout the day with each animal in order to build a relationship of trust. Many of the behaviors that the dolphins and sea lions learn will be seen during programs and when you swim with the dolphins, but some of them are trained just for fun - both for the animals...and their trainers!
One of the most important aspects of the training program deals with what we call husbandry behaviors. This particular daily training allows all of our animals to voluntarily participate in physical exams which include checking their eyes, mouth, blowhole, flippers, fins, body and tail. It also promotes voluntary collection of blood, respiratory and fecal samples for routine medical profiles, as well as ultrasound exams for monitoring pregnancies in females.
Our mission is to ensure that each of our guests take home very special memories after their encounter. Whether you want to swim with dolphins or see the dolphin or sea lions habitat, we would like to leave every visitor with a reminder that their experience was only possible due to the specific training that our dolphins have received. We do not condone interactions with wild dolphins or other Bahamas animal life, because they have no understanding or experience with humans attempting such interactions. Such attempts could possibly be harmful to their social structure.
We hope to see you at Dolphin Encounters soon!
